Why AdSense Finalized Earnings Don't Match YouTube Studio

YouTube Studio shows estimates; AdSense shows what you'll actually be paid. Why the numbers differ, and how to reconcile one month step by step.

Comparing YouTube Studio estimated revenue with finalized AdSense for YouTube earnings

Reviewed by Ihtsham Akram · Facts checked against YouTube Help on October 28, 2026

YouTube Studio shows estimated revenue. AdSense for YouTube shows finalized earnings, which is the money you'll actually be paid. Google states that estimated earnings are subject to adjustments until they're finalized, so a gap between the two is expected. The questions worth asking are how big the gap is and whether you can explain it.

Estimated vs finalized earnings: what each number means

NumberWhere you see itWhen it's setCan it change?
Estimated revenueYouTube Studio Analytics, updated through the monthContinuously, as views and ads accrueYes, until finalized
Finalized earningsAdSense for YouTube balance and Studio's payment activity7th–12th of the following monthNo, apart from later invalid-traffic offsets

For tax records and accounting, use the finalized and paid figures from AdSense, not Studio estimates.

Why is my AdSense balance lower than YouTube Studio?

Google lists the adjustments that can separate estimated from finalized earnings. Add date-range and currency effects and you get these causes:

ReasonWhat happensWhere to check
Invalid trafficRevenue from views or clicks that aren't from real, interested viewers is removed. It can also be offset against future balances.Studio payment activity, under "Adjustments made to your earnings"

How to reconcile YouTube Studio and AdSense for one month

  1. In YouTube Studio > Analytics > Revenue, set the date range to one full calendar month (e.g. September 1–30), not "last 28 days".
  2. Note Estimated revenue for that month.
  3. In the Studio app, go to Earn > Your payment activity and find the same month. Note the earnings and the adjustments shown.
  4. In AdSense for YouTube, open the payment history and find the finalized amount added between the 7th and 12th of the next month.
  5. Subtract: Studio estimate − finalized amount = gap. The adjustments line should account for most of it.
  6. Whatever's left after adjustments, taxes and currency is what to investigate.

Example: reconciling September

The figures below are illustrative, to show the method. Your own adjustments will differ.

LineAmountSource
Studio estimated revenue, Sep 1–30$412.80YouTube Studio > Analytics > Revenue
Invalid traffic adjustment−$9.40Studio app > Your payment activity
Copyright claim adjustment−$6.10Studio app > Your payment activity
US withholding (non-US creator, US-viewer share)−$21.30AdSense payment history

Unexplained difference$0.00Nothing to investigate

If the bottom line isn't close to zero, the leftover usually comes from a date-range or currency mismatch, so repeat step 1 carefully before contacting support.

Our YouTube revenue checker runs the views × RPM side of this arithmetic. Use it to check that Studio's estimate is itself consistent with your views before comparing it with AdSense.

When are YouTube earnings finalized?

Earnings accrue over a calendar month. Finalized earnings for that month are added to your YouTube payments balance between the 7th and 12th of the following month. If the balance meets the threshold on the 20th and there are no holds, payment is issued between the 21st and 26th. If not, the balance rolls over. The full calendar is in our YouTube AdSense payment schedule guide.

Where to see finalized earnings in the YouTube Studio app

You don't have to open AdSense to see adjustments. In the YouTube Studio app, tap Earn, then under Creator support & tools tap Your payment activity. It shows:

  • Your earnings and the adjustments made to them
  • Progress toward your next payment and the payment threshold
  • A 12-month payment history with a breakdown of each payment

That screen is the fastest way to see why a month came in lower than Studio's estimate.

How big a gap is normal?

Google doesn't publish a "normal" percentage, and it varies by channel. A useful rule of thumb:

  • Small gap, explained by the adjustments line: expected. Nothing to do.
  • Gap explained by tax withholding: check your tax info is Approved. Without it, Google can withhold up to 24% of worldwide earnings. See submit YouTube tax info in AdSense.
  • Large gap labelled invalid traffic: look at where your traffic came from. If ads are also limited, see YouTube invalid traffic ad limit.
  • Gap with no adjustment to explain it: re-check date ranges and currency, then contact YouTube creator support with the month, both figures and screenshots.

FAQ

Which number should I use for my accounts and taxes?

Use what was finalized and paid, from AdSense for YouTube payment history. Studio estimates are for tracking performance. They aren't income records, and they can be revised.

Can finalized earnings still change?

Finalized earnings are what goes into your balance. Google can still offset earnings later found to come from invalid traffic against your future balance, so a later month can come in lower because of an earlier problem. The adjustments line in Studio's payment activity shows when that happens.

Why does Studio show earnings for a month that hasn't been paid?

Because payment depends on the balance, not the month. If you were under the payment threshold on the 20th, or had a hold, the finalized amount rolls over and is paid in a later month together with newer earnings. One payment can therefore cover more than one month of Studio revenue.
