Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator

Calculate Instagram engagement rates by followers, reach, or views. Compare up to ten posts using average, median, and combined rates; export a CSV.

Use metrics from the same video or post. For several posts, keep the period and denominator consistent. Blank interaction fields count as zero; a missing or zero denominator is excluded.

Average post rate

Median post rate

Combined rate

Average treats each valid post equally. Median is the middle post rate. Combined divides total interactions by the sum of the chosen denominators; it does not represent unique people across posts. Interactions can exceed views or followers. No universal performance rating or sponsorship value is inferred.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter matching metrics. Choose followers, reach, or views, then enter interactions and the matching denominator for each post.
  2. Compare posts. Add up to ten posts from a consistent period. Review each rate and the average, median, and combined rates.
  3. Export your results. Download a CSV for your own analysis; the calculator does not connect to Instagram.

FAQ

How is the rate calculated?

(Likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ the selected denominator × 100. For 100 interactions and 1,000 followers, the rate is 10%. Include the same interaction types for every post you compare.

Why do the average and combined rates differ?

The average gives every post equal weight. The combined rate divides all interactions by the sum of denominators. For rates of 10% and 0% on denominators of 1,000 and 500, the average is 5% and the combined rate is 6.67%.

Can it look up an Instagram username?

No. Enter your own metrics from Instagram Insights or another source you can access. Nothing is fetched from Instagram or saved by this calculator.

What is a good engagement rate?

There is no universal threshold. Compare similar content, the same denominator, and consistent time periods. A high rate alone does not prove audience quality or sponsorship value.
