Snapchat Planets Decoder
Tap the planet on your friend’s Snapchat Solar System to see which of their eight Best Friends spots it represents, from Mercury (#1) to Neptune (#8).
Tap the planet you see on your friend's Friendship Profile
Mercury means
#1 of 8 in their Best Friends
Closest orbit. You are the friend they Snap and Chat with the most.
You are their 1st Best Friend on this reading. The planet shows your place in their list, not how they rank in yours, and it moves as you both Snap and Chat more or less.
Snapchat Planets Order and Meanings
Snapchat+ shows a Friend Solar System for your Best Friends. Your friend is the Sun and your Bitmoji sits on a planet. The closer the orbit, the higher you sit in their Best Friends list.
| Planet | Best Friends position | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | #1 of 8 | Closest orbit. You are the friend they Snap and Chat with the most. |
| Venus | #2 of 8 | Second-closest orbit. One of their most frequent contacts. |
| Earth | #3 of 8 | Third position in their Best Friends list. |
| Mars | #4 of 8 | Fourth position. Regular contact, but others rank higher. |
| Jupiter | #5 of 8 | Fifth position: the middle of their Best Friends list. |
| Saturn | #6 of 8 | Sixth position in their Best Friends list. |
| Uranus | #7 of 8 | Seventh position. You made the list, near the outer edge. |
| Neptune | #8 of 8 | Outermost orbit: the eighth and last Best Friends spot. |
Snapchat lists the planets in this order and says each is a different position in the Best Friends list, but it hasn’t published an official planet-to-number table. The positions above follow distance from the Sun, which is how the feature is read.
Why Can’t I See Snapchat Planets?
- You don’t have Snapchat+. The Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature.
- It’s switched off. It is off by default for first-time subscribers. Turn it on in the Snapchat+ feature management page; you can switch it off again at any time.
- You aren’t in their top eight. The Best Friends badge only appears if you are among the eight friends they Snap and Chat with the most.
- The list just changed. Best Friends update regularly, so a badge can appear or disappear as Snapping habits shift.
Snapchat Planets vs the Best Friends List
Your Best Friends list is your own top eight contacts, featured at the top of your Send To screen and visible only to you. The Solar System works the other way round: it shows where you appear in a friend’s list. That’s why you can be Mercury in their system while they sit lower in yours. How to use Snapchat Planets Decoder
- Open your friend’s Friendship Profile. In Snapchat, open the chat with your friend and tap their Bitmoji or name. With Snapchat+, a “Best Friends” badge with a gold ring appears if you are among their eight Best Friends.
- Tap the Best Friends badge. Snapchat shows their Solar System: your friend is the Sun and your Bitmoji sits on one planet.
- Pick the same planet above. The decoder shows which of the eight Best Friends positions that planet represents and what it says about how often you Snap and Chat.

Things to Know About Snapchat Planets
It changes over time
Best Friends lists update regularly, so a planet today can move next week as Snapping habits change.
Your own list is private
No one else can see your Best Friends list. The Solar System only reveals your place in someone else’s.
No planet isn’t rejection
Only eight people fit. A missing badge just means you are outside their top eight right now.
Turn it off if it stresses you
Snapchat made the feature opt-in because rankings can make friendships feel worse. You can toggle it off at any time.
FAQ
What is the Snapchat Planets order?
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Each planet is a different position in your friend’s Best Friends list, read from the closest orbit (Mercury, #1) to the farthest (Neptune, #8).
Does the planet show my Best Friends or theirs?
Theirs. The Solar System on a friend’s Friendship Profile shows where you sit in their Best Friends list. Your own list can rank them differently.
Why can’t I see Snapchat Planets?
You need Snapchat+, the feature is off by default for first-time subscribers (turn it on in the Snapchat+ feature management page), and you only get a planet if you are among that friend’s eight Best Friends.
Is the planet an exact ranking?
Treat it as a guide. Snapchat says each planet is a different position in the Best Friends list, but it hasn’t published an official planet-to-number table and has described the feature as a reflection of how often you communicate, not a numerical ranking. Positions also update as your Snapping changes.
Can my friend see which planet I put them on?
Snapchat says the Solar System is only visible to the Snapchat+ subscriber viewing it. It isn’t shown to anyone else.
